The XVI FAAA Convention was held on July 14-16 in San Francisco Bay Area, CA. The chief guest for the event was the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University. Prof. Tariq Mansoor is not only a prominent faculty/surgeon of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College but also an alumnus of The University; his presence in the convention was palpable in the enthusiasm of participants. The Convention was attended by alumni from all over USA; there was a huge turnout from every state, every generation and different walks of life. What was unique and worth noticeable was the participation of younger alumni, they also brought in lot of energy and enthusiasm to the convention.

The program was well organized by the President Amtul Nazeer Suhail and the local Northern California AMU Alumni Association. The program agenda included array of sessions starting from the workshop on Bridging program on Friday followed by full day of workshops as well as Banquet Dinner on Saturday. Every session was well attended and was followed by many brain storming ideas and discussions. Some of the highlights were the presentations by Prof. S. Usmani and Prof. Mary DeBey followed by the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Aligarh Muslim University and Brooklyn College, New York. The Vice Chancellor also announced the procurement of grant money of $1.2 million for the establishment of Early Childhood Center in AMU and a promise of future collaboration with Brooklyn College,

The evening reception was attended by many local alumni and guests in addition to all the delegates. The Guests of Honors were prominent entrepreneurs Dr. Hasan Kamil & Dr.Talat Hasan being also alum of the University. In their address, they highlighted the importance of the Endowment Fund and how to educate female students with modern technology as well as interpersonal /intrapersonal skills. The VC also briefed the audience of the work undertaken so far at AMU; his vision and future goals and made an appeal for support and participation from the alumni. He said although it was difficult for him to travel immediately after taking charge, he is here in San Francisco to bring his message. He also recognized many alumni with mementos for their contributions.

The last day of the Convention was an optional sight-seeing tour of San Francisco, almost all delegates joined in. It was the best culmination of 3 days of festivities and included breathtaking scenic views, lots of group photos, singing/sharing jokes and fish ‘n chips for lunch. There was a dinner organized at India Community Center by Drs. Talat Hasan and Hasan Kamil in honor of the Vice Chancellor and his wife for all the alumni on Sunday evening. As everyone said goodbyes on Sunday evening or Monday morning; many new friendships had ignited, older bonds refreshed and promises made for returning next year for another Convention. Long live the spirit of AMU and spirit of Aligs fraternity!!
